Il  existe cependant un trafic ill\u00e9gal tr\u00e8s intense dans certaines zones de  la Birmanie frontali\u00e8res avec la Chine et la Tha\u00eflande. La vente du teck  constitue \u00e9galement la seconde ressource financi\u00e8re officielle du  r\u00e9gime militaire dictatorial au pouvoir en Birmanie, avec 300 millions  de dollars en 2004 (source Global Witness), ce qui repr\u00e9sente plus de  10% de ses revenus.
